The digital displays of 23 works from Escape from Hong Kong, a wartime cartoon series by Ye Qianyu (1907-95) — a renowned Chinese comic strip artist and painter born in Tonglu county in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province — will be exhibited at the Hong Kong Museum of History from Aug 27 to Dec 15.

It will be part of the events held by the Chinese government across the country to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45) and the World Anti-Fascist War (1939-45).

In addition, a large-scale touring exhibition called Artistic Soul, Patriotic Heart — Ye Qianyu's Wartime Cartoons will be staged as a special unit at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from Aug 22 to 29.

It will showcase Escape from Hong Kong alongside Ye's Wartime Chongqing series and related video materials.

Ye, a pioneer of modern Chinese art, used his pen as a weapon to record and inspire resistance during the turbulent times. His work remains both a historical testament and an artistic monument to national spirit.

Beyond the main venues, extended activities will bring Ye's works to Hong Kong's 18 districts and schools — passing on the legacy of wartime resilience to younger generations.

Meanwhile, in his hometown Tonglu, the Ye Qianyu Art Museum is holding an exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of the master's passing, featuring his manuscripts, original works and anti-Japanese cartoons.
